OS Checker is operated by Insytec AB, Sweden, which is the data controller for the personal data described here. We follow the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This page describes what we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. Questions go to hello@oschecker.com.
Waitlist
If you join the waitlist we store your email address and the time you signed up. It's used for one thing only: sending you an invite when sign-up opens. We don't share it, and we don't send newsletters or marketing to it. The legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by emailing us - we'll then delete the address.
Accounts
For an account we store your email address, your name, a hashed password (never the password itself) and your notification settings. They're needed to log you in and to send the reports and alerts you've chosen.
Machine data
Each checkin from the oschecker CLI sends the machine's hostname, OS, release, architecture, its list of installed packages and versions, and the output of any plugins you've added. We also store the IP address and CLI version the checkin came from. This is what the service compares against upstream release and security data, so it's needed to provide it. Plugins are written or chosen by you - only put data in them you're comfortable sending to us.
Cookies and logs
We only set the cookies needed to keep you logged in. The theme choice is remembered in your browser's local storage and never sent to us. There is no analytics or third-party tracking on the site. Our web server keeps standard access logs (IP address, time, requested page) to keep the service secure and running.
Retention
Machine data is kept while the machine is registered; deleting a machine removes its data. Account data is kept while the account exists. Waitlist addresses are deleted when you ask, or when sign-up opens and the invite has been sent.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of the data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, or object to how it's used, by emailing hello@oschecker.com. If you think we handle your data wrongly, you can also complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY).
